Overview

Gerai Seong Kee, nestled in the heart of Taman Selera, PJ Old Town, stands as a genuine pillar of Hakka culinary tradition. Known widely for their Yong Tau Foo, this humble stall has endured the test of time, serving generations with authentic flavors and a warm, no-frills hawker experience. As one of the few dedicated Hakka eateries in a vibrant food court that celebrates Malaysia’s muhibbah spirit, Seong Kee offers a taste that feels both deeply rooted and relevant.

The hallmark here is the Yong Tau Foo—freshly stuffed with a savory blend of fish and pork, and fried crisp upon order. Whether it’s the silky tofu, the tender brinjal, or the delightfully crispy fuchuk, each piece balances a delicate harmony of textures and seasoning. Accompanied by a bright, mildly spicy chili sauce that adds just the right kick, it elevates the dish without overwhelming the palate. Paired with a bowl of steaming white rice, it becomes a fulfilling meal that speaks to the soul of Hakka comfort food.

Beyond Yong Tau Foo, Gerai Seong Kee impresses with other specialties that showcase the rich heritage of Hakka cuisine—the curry fish head is a standout, offering a well-calibrated blend of gentle heat and creamy lemak richness perfect for sharing. Dishes like stuffed okra in light soup and braised pork rice reflect thoughtful preparation and an adherence to tradition, distinguishing the stall from typical hawker fare.

The experience at Seong Kee is simple yet genuine—no extravagant dining room or elaborate presentation, just honest food served in a lively, bustling setting that captures the spirit of the local community. The stall’s midday to early evening hours cater well to lunch crowds, families, and food enthusiasts eager to enjoy a classic meal without fuss. Friendly faces often greet you, bringing an element of warmth, though the temperament of long-time operators adds a layer of authentic hawker charm.

Gerai Seong Kee is especially fitting for those seeking an authentic dive into Hakka flavors in Petaling Jaya—a place where tradition stays alive through recipes handed down and food crafted with care. Whether you are a local who has savored this cuisine for decades or a curious visitor drawn by the legacy, this stall serves up more than just a meal; it offers a connection to culture and community, plate after plate.

I've been eating here for 30+ years since my school days, and they've come a long way as a humble & hardworking family. Probably one of the best Hakka Yong Tau Foo in the Klang Valley, and still manages to impress me. They've also been hit by the sudden shift in customers since after the MCO where the trend of diners have changed drastically. So they only open from lunch till about 7pm on regular days. And later on weekends. Must eat is the Sui Kow, fishball and the fresh vege.

Seong Kee, the stall, is as old as this Jalan Othman Taman Selera. Generations of people have eaten at this stall and this food court over the years. It's the only stall selling yong tau foo (ytf) in the entire food court which is a model and showcase of the muhibbah spirit - Malaysians of different races operate in different sections in peace and harmony. Every time I visit, I'd most likely order a few pieces of ytf to go with Jessie's ais kacang (ABC). The ytf are freshly fried on the spot based on orders ensuring only the freshest are served. My favourites are the crispy fuchuk and brinjal. Priced at RM2.40 a piece (relatively pricey), they are stuffed with a generous blend of flavourful fish and pork filling. The chilli dipping sauce pairs well with the ytf. You can also pair them with a bowl of rice for a more fulfilling experience. Besides ytf, there are other Hakka delicacies that you can order (refer to photos). The young man attending to customers is friendly and has good PR skills. Sadly, the same can't be said of his aunty who can be moody and capable of making nasty remarks at times. Business Hours: 12pm-7pm daily Closed every Monday

Good clean YTF. Portions are really quite fair for the price. See photos below. I paid RM11.40 for stuffed tofu, tofu pok, Fu Chok and Brinjal along with white rice. The dipping sauce was nice but the chilli can definitely be improved. If it was garlicky chilli, then spot on! Can't believe it took me this long to try out this stall having seen it since I was a child around 30 odd years ago.

sisters rock. old school hakka soul food, well beyond advertised scope of yong tau foo. which is itself very good. ditto fish head curry, which is available in sizing fit for couple. curry itself is nice calibration of gentle heat and lemak. suan pan is available here, when it was basically extinct in wider world. too kah chor is both authentic and excellent.

Overall experience: A classic hawker-style experience. It’s a no-frills spot focused on good food, though it can get pretty hot and humid during sunny days. Food: The Yong Tau Foo was fresh and comforting, served in a light, clear soup. The stuffed vegetables and tofu were tasty, and the fried items were crispy. The chili sauce added a nice spicy kick. Service: Service was fast and efficient despite the crowd. Cost: Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size, good value for a filling meal.

I rarely give 5-stars rating but Seong Kee definitely deserve it. They have been operating here for more than 20 years, serving great home cook Hakka dishes and freshly made yong tau foo. Their Hakka Char Yuk (Hakka style braised pork with black fungus) is top notch, has a very good nam yu (南乳, red fermented beancurd) aroma, and very balance seasoning. Deliciously nostalgic and home cook style. Curry fish head was another great dish they serve; it's spicy, savory and curry smell just great. You can either have fish head, or ask them to change to stingray meat. The curry has lots of vege in it - cabbage, ladyfinger, brinjal and tou foo pok. Yong tau foo are made upon order, but it doesn't take long to serve. Tofu and ladyfingers are big in size, fish paste is great. Chili and black bean sauce for dipping are also good. Price is reasonable, food are delicious. Some may complain about the environment as it gets pretty hot in the afternoon but I could surely bear the heat for these wonderful food!

One of the best Yong Tau Foo I’ve eaten. Lots of history ever since older generation till now. Authentic food and taste good. Consistent and fresh. Highly recommended! Though environment is not good as it’s located in a hawker place.

Been here since 30 years ago when I was a kid. Frequently visited also about 16 years ago. The taste still remains the same Very authentic and 古早味 young taufu. It was passed down by generation. 30 years ago their previous generation still around. Their food are all good. You can come and try by yourself. It is a hawker stall so the food quality already high. Don't compare with high class restaurant. Price point is very affordable. Service and staff manners are very good. The environment can be hot if you come at lunch time. At night seems gloomy when nearby stall are not open. Must give it a try if you like Hakka food
